SIMPLE & EASY SELF CARE TIPS

My approach to Self Care is the same as to most things in life: the simpler the better! It is important not to make the matter of self-care overly complicated or lavish.  Instead, it should be something we can easily implement into our normal work-weeks and lifes. It is also not necessary to spend tons of money on it because there are great affordable alternatives out there, that also do the job. That is why I have put together a list of seven super simple, easy and affordable self-care tips, that you can adapt for your own self-care routine:

sleep in / get up early
There are two types of people: night owls and larks. I’m definitely a lark. I love to get up as early as possible and breathe in the fresh morning air. For me, there is just something special about early mornings: the day is full of possibilities and I feel like I have everything under control. But not everybody is like me, and many people love to sleep in. The truth is though, that you are much more likely to get things done when you get an early start in the day. Nevertheless, you should listen to your body: If you try to get up early and absolutely hate it, you should not try to force yourself. If you want to try to get up early I can recommend limiting sugar and caffeine the day before, so that you will fall asleep faster and get more rest.
If you manage to get up an hour or two earlier, you can use that time to really treat yourself: whether it is to go for a run, read a book or just enjoy the quiet morning by yourself before everybody else wakes up: those early morning hours are the perfect time for that.

meditation / mindfulness
Those two are pretty similar, but also have significant differences. Although some people would disagree, I see mindfulness as something like meditation for beginners. There are lots of apps that help you to get started on mindfulness by guiding you through all the steps.
do sports / stretch
Not all of us are really into sports, but exercise is without a doubt very important. Try to incorporate some form of exercise through stretching if you don’t feel like working out. It will help your muscles to relax and keep you flexible. Be careful though and make sure not to push yourself too hard.
coffee / cold drinks
Depending on the time of the year and your own preferences you might either enjoy a nice and cozy warm drink like coffee, tea or cocoa, or you might much rather enjoy something cold like homemade ice tea or a nice, alcohol-free cocktail. To make yourself a nice drink is one of the simplest ways to treat yourself.
cook something / get takeout
Some people love to cook, some people don’t. I really don’t. Luckily there are lots of great restaurants around where I can easily get some delicious vegan food whenever I don’t feel like cooking. But if you like to cook you are in luck: not only can you treat yourself to some great homemade cuisine, you can also experiment with new recipes and flavors.
journaling with pen & paper / digital
Journaling is a great way to just get stuff out of your head and onto some piece of paper. From there, it is way easier to reflect on problems and find solutions. If you are not the pen & paper type, you can download a journaling app.
read a book / watch a film
If you are into films, don’t just watch some show that you would see any way but try to choose something of great quality, that will inspire you. Films are a great way to revive your creativity and a wonderful thing to do with friends, family or a partner. You can also use your self-care time to read a nice book and really relax from the stress of everyday life.
